You have the right to request that ScootBooks deletes the personal information we hold about you. This page explains how to do it.
Who can request data deletion
- Drivers who have used ScootBooks via WhatsApp to receive payment reminders, save a card for payment, or interact with their owner
- Owners who have signed up to ScootBooks to manage their fleet
- Anyone else whose personal information we may hold
How to make a request
You can request data deletion in any of these three ways:
Option 1: WhatsApp (fastest)
Send us a WhatsApp message at +27 61 500 5614 with the words "Delete my data".
Include:
- Your full name
- The phone number you used with ScootBooks
- A short statement that you wish to have your data deleted
We will respond within 48 hours to confirm receipt and verify your identity.
Option 2: Email
Email us at info@scootbooks.com with the subject line "Data deletion request".
Include the same information listed above for the WhatsApp option.
Option 3: Post
Write to us at:

What happens next
Once we receive your request:
- Verification (1–3 days) — We confirm your identity to make sure we don't delete the wrong person's data
- Review (up to 7 days) — We check whether any of your data must be retained for legal reasons (e.g. tax records, ongoing disputes)
- Deletion (within 30 days of the request) — All personal data that can lawfully be deleted is removed from our systems and our service providers' systems
- Confirmation — We send you a written confirmation that your data has been deleted
What we may need to keep
By law, we are required to keep certain records even after a deletion request:
- Financial transaction records must be kept for 7 years under South African tax law
- Records relating to ongoing legal disputes may be kept until the dispute is resolved
Where we must keep records, we keep only the minimum necessary and we anonymise the data wherever possible.
What gets deleted
When we delete your data, we remove:
- Your name, contact details, and identification information
- Your payment card token (held by Paystack on our behalf)
- Your message history with ScootBooks via WhatsApp
- Any documents you uploaded (ID, proof of address, etc.)
- Your contract and payment records, except where retained for tax purposes (in which case they are anonymised where possible)
We also instruct our service providers (Paystack, Meta, Supabase, Anthropic) to delete copies of your data they hold on our behalf.
If a driver requests deletion while their contract is still active
If you are a driver currently on a rent-to-own contract, deleting your data will likely require your owner to terminate that contract first, because we cannot continue to process payments without holding some personal information.
In this case, we will:
- Notify your owner of the request
- Help arrange a sensible handover so the contract can be wound down
- Delete your data once the contract is closed
